Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
Few people have a good understanding of what their lymphatic system is and how it works, but without it, none of us would be able to survive.
Briefly, our lymphatic system extends all through our body, transporting lymph fluid from our cells, taking away their waste products, including bacteria, which is destroyed by our lymph nodes, and proteins, which are eventually flushed into our bloodstream.
In the vast majority of cases, our lymphatic system works perfectly well, but since, unlike our bloodstream, it operates without a pump, it can sometimes benefit from outside help to improve its flow.
This outside help is called lymphatic drainage therapy, which is a technique using long, gentle massage strokes to encourage the lymphatic system’s natural movement and has a host of benefits, including stimulating the immune system in order to help fight infection, detoxifying, reducing water retention and treating lymphoedema, or swelling in one’s arms and legs.
It also increases one’s sense of wellbeing and calmness and is deeply relaxing!
Gerry is the latest practitioner in the Camden and Kentish Town area and in Derby to offer this much under-rated and worthwhile technique. He has studied the Chikly Approach, which was invented by an osteopath to influence and modify the direction and quality of flow. He has also trained in the Veltheim Method of Lymphatic Drainage, which addresses more the pre-lymphatic fluid situation. The two systems complement each other beautifully.
